You can join the Navy as young as 17 with a certified waiver but I'm unsure if that's still the case.Īs far as my opinion goes on the Navy, I have mixed feelings. Find one who will give it to you straight forward but don't commit to anything unless you're absolutely sure its what you wanna do. Too many of them like to sugarcoat shit and we'll only tell you what you wanna hear to get their numbers up. I'd also advise talking to a navy recruiter but be mindful of which ones you talk to. If you wanna know more on damage controlman and what they do, I suggest doing some research on the internet or if your able to find books at your local library that's even better. I wasn't a DC so I couldn't explain everything they do however I never thought of it as a bad choice. It always seemed like a pretty good job even during general quarters drills where everyone gets training on damage control. Meaning making sure all hatches are secured to what they're supposed to be. You'd be mostly responsible for making sure all (just the ones you'd be responsible for) material conditions are properly set.
Rate like that entails more than firefighting. If you want a rate that comes close to it i suggest Damage Controlman.
